Reflections on the 23 things project 15 January 2008

January 15, 2008 · 3 Comments

I have throughly enjoyed completing all the tasks and being the Wantirna 23 things champion. For me the highlights have been:

- the increased camaraderie, sense of shared task and learning that has occurred at my campus with everyone coming to grips with a brave new world.

- the cross age group and cross campus communication that occurred with the early adopters in FaceBook.

- I have been able to make contact with some teachers using FaceBook. Because my purpose with FaceBook has been professional I have deliberately censored the groups I have joined. I have been conservative in my approach eg I deliberately did not join the group Librarians Who Wear Glasses Are Sexy !

- an increase in my personal confidence to tackle unfamiliar technology related tasks.

- selling of SNS applications such as flickr and deli.cio.us to teachers in the Access Department. I will teach some classes on these applications for Certificate III and above this semester.

- I found personal application for flickr. I rent the spare room in my house, when looking for a new housemate, I added a link to photos of my house in flickr to the advertisement in Gumtree.

- it was very exciting to receive my first random post, when the author of a book on email commented on a post I had written about email dominating your life.

- through groups about libraries and web 2.0 I have formed three international cultural sharing relationships with librarians in the US and Queensland.

My 23 things blog has already morphed into a training log/training event advice for the Swinburne and VU BUGS (bicycle users group). I intend to keep it going.
